Join Earth Play Retreats for an unforgettable journey through northern Morocco, where climbing, culture, yoga, and adventure come together beneath one of the most extraordinary skies imaginable.

We’ll begin in the beautiful blue city of Chefchaouen before heading into the Rif Mountains, where we’ll settle into our mountain retreat and spend four days climbing limestone in the dramatic valleys surrounding Akchour. Between climbing days, we’ll slow things down with yoga, explore waterfalls and mountain trails, enjoy incredible Moroccan food, and experience the culture and beauty of this remarkable part of the world.

Then, on our final morning together, we’ll gather beneath the Moroccan sky to witness the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027—an extraordinary finale to an already unforgettable week.

And then there’s the finale. On August 2, we’ll gather in the mountains of northern Morocco to experience a total solar eclipse with more than four minutes of totality—an exceptionally long and rare celestial event.

We’ll journey from the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen into the dramatic Rif Mountains, where limestone cliffs, waterfalls, mountain villages, and Moroccan culture create the backdrop for our week together.

From the Blue City to the Mountains

Our adventure begins in Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous Blue City, tucked into the foothills of the Rif Mountains. We’ll have time to wander its winding blue streets, experience the medina, enjoy Moroccan food, and settle into the rhythm of this beautiful part of the country.

From Chefchaouen, we’ll travel deeper into the Rif Mountains to Akchour, our home base for the climbing portion of the retreat. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, forests, rivers, and waterfalls, this spectacular mountain landscape gives us access to the climbing and outdoor adventures that brought us here.

We’ll spend our days climbing, exploring, practicing yoga, sharing meals, and enjoying the slower pace of mountain life.

And on August 2, the mountains of northern Morocco will become the setting for the grand finale of our journey: the 2027 total solar eclipse.

Where We Will Stay

Chefchaouen
We’ll begin our journey in the heart of Chefchaouen, staying in a beautiful traditional riad surrounded by the winding blue streets of the medina. It’s the perfect place to settle into Morocco and begin our adventure together.

Akchour & the Rif Mountains
For the climbing portion of our retreat, we’ll move into the mountains and stay at a beautiful ecolodge surrounded by the natural landscape of Akchour. This will be our home base for climbing, yoga, shared meals, waterfalls, and relaxing between adventures.

Rooms will be offered as shared or limited private occupancy, with comfortable spaces to unwind after our days outside.

Heidi Wirtz

AMGA Certified Rock Guide

Heidi is an accomplished climber in all realms of the sport. She has been guiding for over 20 years, is an AMGA Certified Rock Guide and professional climber for La Sportiva and PMI Ropes. Along with her passion for climbing she has taught yoga for climbers for over a decade. She works with people to get them back into the flow state and help them realize that this is a natural state of our being. We will work on the mat and on the wall to help us grow and develop.

Marc Pietrolungo aka "Petch"

AMGA Certified Rock Instructor

Petch has been climbing since 1989 and his passion for teaching and guiding are equal to his insatiable stoke for climbing in general. He is owner of Lovers Leap Guides and has developed quite a lot of the climbing in this area. He is an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor
